Every day should be an opportunity to show your loved one(s) how much you care, yet, we often get caught up in our busy lives (and, realistically, getting showered with that kind of attention regularly could get to be a little much). That makes it all the more rewarding to dote and be doted on a few special times a year.
Sweetest Day is October 20 and is one of those times. It’s Valentine’s Day’s fall counterpart and described as “An occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.” The first Sweetest Day was created by a committee of 12 confectioners in Cleveland on October 8, 1921. Fast forward to today: The holiday is now more love-centric and widely celebrated—always on the third Saturday in October.
Don’t forget to treat your sweetie next weekend. Whether you’re an everyday prince or princess charming, or seeking that special once-a-season gesture, we’ve got a few romantic dinner ideas that might just put stars in her or his eyes.
1. Dream Dance Steak—October 19 & 20 We’re setting the mood for romance on Friday and Saturday nights, featuring an exclusive three-course prix fixe menu plus champagne to toast. This dreamy dinner for two is $100. Make your reservation and get ready to boast.
2. RuYi—October 19 & 20 Love is in the air—and on the menu at RuYi. We’re serving a mouth-watering meal for two, including: A carafe of warm or cold sake, ahi tuna tartare with avocado and a wasabi soy vinaigrette, Japanese pumpkin soup, a seafood platter with lobster tail, jumbo shrimp and scallops in roasted garlic butter and an assorted fruit dessert. This dinner decadence is yours for just $40 per person or $75 per couple. Available from 5 p.m. until close both days.
