Milwaukee in Spring

The thought of Milwaukee in spring may conjure up images of rainy days, but it’s not all cloudy skies and muddy lawns! With a few tips from us, you can make the best of the season, no matter the weather. Here are some fun ideas to try in Milwaukee this spring.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ season kicked off in early April with an Opening Day celebration like no other. When we think of Brewers’ baseball, we think of tailgating, awesome food, local beers and cheering on our crew. Our favorite thing early in the season, however, may just be the retractable roof! Rain or shine, Miller Park always provides a comfortable ballgame experience.

While Opening Day baseball is always a great gathering of Milwaukeeans, there’s another day that stirs up even more hometown pride. Every year on April 14, we come together to celebrate everything that makes our city great. Milwaukee Day (4/14) includes events across the city, from live music to parties to free museum admissions, free Bubblr bike rides and more. In 2017, the day will even include the grand re-opening of the legendary Pabst Brewery! Find an event that inspires your Milwaukee spirit and celebrate the 414 this April.

Milwaukee is known as Brew City for a reason, and our next springtime activity would likely make the list for any season. Nevertheless, might we suggest a brewery tour? Our city is home to more than 20 different breweries, with new ones popping up each year. Touring these local businesses is a fun and inexpensive way to spend a rainy afternoon indoors while learning more about how beer is brewed and its impact on Milwaukee. Cheers!

If the sun does decide to peek out and you want to go enjoy some fresh air, check out the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners. This beautiful outdoor space is just minutes outside the city and offers stunning natural beauty all season long. The garden opens the last weekend of April, just in time to see blooming spring bulbs, wild flowers, magnolias, daffodils and more. Take a guided tour or just stroll around and take it all in; either way you’ll be glad you decided to stop and smell the roses.

Another of our favorite springtime destinations is right here in the Menomonee Valley. You don’t need to be a diehard biker to enjoy the Harley-Davidson Museum! Whether you’re looking for a guided group tour, family fun, or to learn about the history of this legendary Milwaukee company, the Harley-Davidson Museum has it all The museum is open 363 days a year and offers over a dozen exhibits at any given time. Warning - you may leave the museum and feel the urge to drive straight to a Harley dealership!

Of course, if indoor entertainment is on your radar during the cloudier months of the year, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino is the place to be. The casino offers high-stakes bingo, nearly 100 table games, over 2,500 slot machines, a 20-table poker room and off-track betting.
