Hot Milwaukee Summers: Six Ways to Beat the Heat

By mid-July, the harsh cold of winter is well out of most Milwaukeeans’ minds. The dog days of summer have arrived with all the heat and humidity that come along with them. Looking for some ideas to keep cool this summer? We’ve got you covered!

  1. Splash around in Lake Michigan

From Fox Point to Oak Creek, the Milwaukee area has some great beaches all along the shore of our beloved Lake Michigan. If you’re looking for more of a party atmosphere, check out Bradford Beach. With sand volleyball courts, tiki bars and a concessions stand, this beach is always a summer hot spot. If you’re looking for a quieter stroll along the sand, we’d recommend the pet-friendly Bender Park in Oak Creek.
  2. Get cultured (and cool) at a Milwaukee attraction

Between the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Mitchell Park Domes, the Milwaukee Public Museum and area libraries, there are plenty of air-conditioned hideaways throughout the city. Take a break from the hot summer sun, and learn a little while you’re at it!
  3. Take in a show at Potawatomi

Milwaukee is home to several top-notch entertainment venues, many of which are great indoor escapes from the summer heat. However, few offer the variety you’ll find at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. From big name headliners in The Northern Lights Theater to free music and comedy shows throughout the casino, Potawatomi’s got live entertainment almost every night of the week.
  4. Tour a local brewery

Milwaukee’s called Brew City for a reason! From the historical Miller Brewery to any of the new microbreweries popping up, there are more than a dozen tours and tastings you can try. Step inside, learn about the drink that built our city, and enjoy an ice cold brew. We’ll drink to that!
  5. Indulge in some frozen custard

If there’s one treat Milwaukee’s known for, it has to be frozen custard. That sweet, creamy goodness is truly a taste of heaven on a hot summer day. It’s hard to pick a favorite – Northpoint Custard on the Lakefront, Leon’s on the south side, Kopp’s, Gilles… the list goes on and on.
  6. Enjoy a refreshing drink (and plenty of water)

At the end of a hot day, there is little more refreshing than a cold drink. Milwaukee is full of watering holes, but if you’re looking for something truly unique, check out Bar 360 at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. Sip in style with stunning lights and full-circle views in the center of all the action. Always remember to drink plenty of water alongside your other summer drinks of choice – hydration is the key to a long, fun night!
